Afrobeat Star About To Lose The Right To Use His Name "Bella Shmurda"

Just as Kizz Daniel lost the right to use his name Kiss Daniel. Same is about to happen to fast rising afrobeat star Bella Shmurda.

Bella Shmurda whose contract with One World Global Record Label is supposed to expire in 2022 went ahead to sign a deal with Dagbana Republik, and now One World is taking Bella to court.

They claim he didn't only sign with Dagbana but went ahead releasing songs without their consent and refusing to remit royalties earned from the songs to them as agreed on the contract he signed with them.

One World Global Record Label is reminding Bella Shmurda that they own the name "Bella Shmurda" due to a contract signed, and the copyright of all recordings recorded with the name 'Bella Shmurda'.

The label is thus seeking an order of court restraining the singer from laying claim to the name and performing the musical works released under or in connection with the name. It is also seeking N200 million damages for breach of the contract.

The Chief Executive Officer of One Word Global Records Limited, Prince Nkem Onyenwenu, said that all efforts to get Bella Shmurda to listen to the voice of reason failed.

He threatened that the outfit would not hesitate to file a similar action against any person or organisations that aids, assists or partakes in the violation of its trademark in the name and its copyright in the musical works released under the name.
